Obituary

Adelia "Ruth" Smithson was born June 20, 1920 to Ethel (nee Richards) and Oscar Henry Lehman in Charleston, KS. She passed from this life on February 4, 2020 at the age of 99.

Ruth grew up in the Eureka, KS area where she graduated from high school. She married John William Smithson in 1948.

She lived in California during World War II and was a block captain. Moving back to Kansas, then Oklahoma, she was a homemaker until 1961 when she entered the health care profession as a Nurses Aid in a nursing home. When she retired she was the Administrator. She along with her boss Bob Walker, set the standard for nursing home care in Oklahoma.

Ruth loved working in her garden, traveling, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Oscar Henry Lehman; husband John William Smithson; sisters Leona  Jean Stevens, Vera Connell, and Patricia Fern Wilson; and granddaughter Chelsea McDaniel.

She is survived by her sons Dan McDaniel of Lone Grove and Bill McDaniel and his wife Mary Beth of Edmond; brother Richard Lehman of Carrolton, TX; grandchildren Michelle Rodgers, Renee Mann, Jan Lollis, Danny McDaniel, Jackie McDaniel, Leslie Groven, Patricia McDaniel, Lindsey McDaniel, and Rachel McDaniel; 18 great grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren.

A private graveside will be held at a later date.
