Bill Fields, son of Wilbur Leland and Lena R (Whitehurst) Sutherland Fields was born November 19, 1950, in Mooreland, Oklahoma. He was called to his heavenly home on September 29, 2023, at the age of 72 years, 9 months, and 29 days at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.

His family moved to Gage, Oklahoma where is dad began farming the land and began a construction job with the Oklahoma Highway Department of Transportation. His mother worked at the Shattuck Hospital as a nurse. At age 7, his dad came home from a hard day of plowing and loaded up the car with the family and moved to Oregon. If you travel that 'ole dusty road today back at the farm in Gage, you will find that rusty push plow still stuck in the ground right where his dad left it. His family moved several times during the year, which made it difficult to make new friends at school. Bill had four older brothers and sisters who helped raise him and his younger siblings while his parents worked. He had a close bond with all of them.

Bill graduated high school in 1969 from Scio, Oregon. After school he began in the logging industry. He later moved to Alaska to do construction. A few years later, he moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma moving in with his sister, Fern, and her family.  He went to work for Constructors Inc. for Bill and Grant Owens. He built cabinets, houses, and some furniture. While building a church in Kingston, OK, the Lord spoke to him and told him he needed to get his heart right and stop living the way he was living. He was raised Jehovah's Witness, but the Lord told him he needed to know Christ. After driving the main street drag several times in Ardmore, he noticed a church and decided he would go there on Sunday morning. When Sunday morning came, he went into the First Freewill Baptist Church, and gave his life to Christ. There he met the love of his life, Belinda McComber in October of 1974. In January 24, 1975 we were united in marriage.

His job position changed, and we started traveling to work on Government Housing projects for Grant Owens working in Pineland, TX, Waxachie, TX, Lufkin and Orange, TX. In September 16, 1980, Aaron was born and we returned back to Ardmore. Bill and Ray Rice went into business together. They incorporated the business as Craftco Builders, Inc. Ray Retired and left the business to Bill. His crew of men built the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce, Farmers Market on Broadway, Good Shepherd Catholic Mission, Marietta, OK, Chickasaw Nutrition Center, Ardmore, Best Western Plus Hotel, Ardmore, many new homes, and remodeling of businesses. He and Aaron built our home in Springer.

Bill's number one hobby was fishing. He joined the Ardmore Bass Club when we first got married. They fished all over Lakes in Oklahoma and Texas. Later he began going to Alaska to fish. He took Aaron and a group of men to catch halibut and salmon. Bill's morning ritual was having coffee with his friends at Daylight Donuts. Shout out to D. Allan, Martin, Dr. Toe, Mark, and several others. Maybe his Green Oregon Duck's cup will be passed down to someone else who loves Oregon as much as he did. Bill loved the Oregon coast and the ocean. His dream was to retire and get a place on the coast.

Robert, his oldest son, graduated from Ardmore High School. After graduation and the army, he went back to Salem, Oregon. There he met Donna and they married and lived there until Robert passed away in September 2020. He was 49 years old. In March of 2017 we lost Aaron. He was 36 years old. So, the loss of both boys had put a strain on Bill's health. He began to have some heart issues. On November 27, 2022 he had a heart attack. They air-flighted him to OU Medical Hospital to revive him. Later he was put in the Heart Hospital. In April 2023 doctors performed a quadruple bypass on him. He was in and out of the Heart Hospital several times. Last Friday, he lost his will to fight anymore. He stepped out of his earthly tent into his new body. This time his surgery was successful, it will last through eternity. Our special thanks to all the doctors at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital South, especially Dr. Stephen Miller, Dr. Naeem Tahirkheli and all the nurses and staff.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Lena Fields, sister Janet McCall, brother Donald (Sonny) Sutherland, brothers-in-laws, A.L. Sell and Lonnie Smith, niece, Debbie Hunt, sons, Aaron and Robert Fields, father-in-law, Mike McComber.

Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Belinda, daughter-in-law Donna Fields, Salem, Oregon. Sisters, Margaret Sell, Woodward, Oklahoma, Fern Smith, Ardmore OK, Betty Peaslee and husband Danny, Gage, OK, brother Dale Fields, Gage, OK. Sister-in-law, Ruth Sutherland, Choctaw, OK. Brother-in-law, Doug McComber and wife Karen, Ardmore, OK. Sisters-in-laws, Teresa Langdon and husband David, Elmore City, Janette Ramsay and husband Roger, Lone Grove, OK, Annette Turner and husband Donnie, Ardmore, OK, mother-in-law Velda McComber, Ardmore, OK, and many nieces and nephews. Special cousins, Karol Shaw and Larry Perkins.

Bill had recently rededicated his heart to Christ with prayers and help from Dr. Alton Fannin, First Baptist Church, where he is a member.
