Obituary

Graveside services with Military honors for Charles Grote are scheduled for Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Parks Cemetery in Carthage Mo.  The family will also have a celebration of life memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in Ardmore on Thursday at 11:00 am.  Rev. David Daniel will officiate both services.

Charles was born May 30, 1944 in Kansas City, MO. to Charles Ernst Grote and Kathrine (McMurphy) Grote.  He passed this life on January 18, 2019 at his residence in Ardmore. (To be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ)

Charles grew up in Carthage MO and graduated from Carthage High School in 1962. He played baseball in Carthage with the American Legion where he played Catcher.   Baseball became a passion for the rest of his life.  He played a lot of baseball, coached baseball and loved watching his Cardinals and Rangers.  Charles loved fishing, especially with his son and son in law.  He never found a fishing hole he didn't want to fish.

Charles and Alice Hailey were married August 14, 1965 in Carthage, MO. and spent the next 53 years working together and raising a family and enjoying life with each other and their children. Together they owned and operated Shenanigans Clothing Store for 25 years.  Charles worked for many of the large retailers before setting out on his own, including Sears and JC Penny's.

He was active in the community including serving on the Arbuckle Area Council for the Boy Scouts of America.  He was active in the First United Methodist Church in Ardmore where he served on many committees and mission activities.

Charles is survived by his wife of the home Alice Grote; daughter, Michele Lynne Brownfield and her husband William of Frisco, Tx.; son, Michael David Grote and his wife Heather Wiebe Grote of Columbia, Mo.; Grandson, Billy Brownfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jane Eleanor Grote.
