Charles Leonard McMillon was born on June 24, 1935 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He went to be home with the Lord on December 22, 2021. Charles was reunited with those that preceded him in death: his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Thelma "Ruth" McMillon, his parents, Leonard and Lurline McMillon, and his Uncle Vernon "Butch"  Butcher.

Charles lived a meaningful life and was known for his dedication to his family, his outgoing personality, his sense of humor, his intelligence, and his wisdom. Charles' legacy will not soon be forgotten by those who knew him, but especially his two children and their spouses, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Charles, or "Chuck," as some knew him, spent his childhood in Blackwell, Oklahoma City, and Clovis, New Mexico. In 1953, Charles graduated from Clovis High School. After graduating, Charles joined his Uncle Butch at the General Electric Plant in Arkansas City, Kansas. At GE, Charles turned his favorite childhood pastime of building model airplanes into a career as a jet engine mechanic. His job with GE soon transferred him to Dallas, Texas in 1955. Charles worked at GE until being drafted into active duty at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas in 1957.

Charles' move to Dallas was a life-changing one, as he met his future bride, native Texan Ruth Bishop, in 1956. He and Ruth married on August 25, 1957 in Dallas. After marrying, Charles enrolled at Arlington State College in 1958 and graduated in 1960. During his time at ASC, his son, Charles Dale McMillon was born. After earning his Associate's Degree, Charles returned to the aviation industry and worked at Texas Instruments.

A lover of science, Charles decided to turn another childhood passion into a career – this time, in pharmacy. In 1961, Charles, Ruth, and Dale moved from Dallas to Norman, Oklahoma, so Charles could enroll in pharmacy school at the University of Oklahoma. While Charles spent time studying and attending lectures, Ruth steadfastly worked at General Motors in Oklahoma City to support the family. In 1964, Charles graduated and set off to begin what would become a nearly 50-year career.

Charles truly exemplified how to take honor in one's work. In 1964, he began working at Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma, which brought his family to their lifelong home of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Soon after moving to Ardmore, Charles and Ruth welcomed their daughter, Lori Lynn McMillon, completing their family. Charles spent his career until retirement dedicated to the patients of Memorial Hospital but additionally served as a pharmacist at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital and helped design several pharmacies. Even after his retirement from Memorial Hospital in 2002, his love of pharmacy couldn't be kept away; Charles worked as a pharmaceutical consultant for nine years at Mercy Hospital of Healdton, Oklahoma. Despite being officially retired in 2011, Charles continued to keep his pharmaceutical license active for many years.

While Charles certainly had a distinguished career, in his eyes, his greatest accomplishment was his family. He and Ruth raised two wonderful children, Dale and Lori, who have each raised two children of their own.

Between his family and his career, Charles still made time for hobbies, volunteerism, and professional service. Charles was a member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacy and the District Four President of the Oklahoma Pharmaceutical Association. He was a twenty-year member of the Kiwanis Club in Ardmore. Most importantly, Charles was a Deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Ardmore. A lover of music, on Sunday mornings, Charles sang in the choir of FBC Ardmore.

Charles loved the outdoors and spent many childhood days hunting and fishing or building model airplanes. As an adult, Charles loved learning through music, reading, and movies. He spent his autumn Saturdays cheering on the OU Sooners football team. He enjoyed boating and spending time at the lake with his family, particularly Ardmore's Lake Murray, where he honeymooned with his bride, waterskied with his children, and picnicked with his grandchildren.

Charles battled cancer with strength and grace for six years. He is survived by: son Dr. Dale McMillon and wife Sheri, of Gainesville, Georgia; daughter Lori Randall and husband Scott, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Grandson Eric Randall and wife Micaela, of Grapevine, Texas; Granddaughters Holly Randall of Plano, Texas, Taylor McMillon of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Sarah McMillon of Wilmington, North Carolina, Great-Granddaughter Rhea Randall of Grapevine, Texas; sister Janet Lott and husband Jerry, of Lexington, Kentucky; niece Mischelle Isernhagen and husband Rick, and their children and grandchildren, of Lexington, Kentucky; and sister-in-law Dorothy Deas of Cordova, Tennessee.

The family would like to thank Matt Lollman and Desha Mims, both of Ardmore, Oklahoma, who helped care for Charles in his final years. Their daily kindness and companionship was an answered prayer and deeply valued by Charles. His family will be forever grateful for the loving care and friendship they provided to Charles.

Funeral services for Charles are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. The internment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will host a visitation on Tuesday, December 28 at 5:00-6:00, at the Craddock Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Dale McMillon, Scott Randall, Eric Randall, Vince Sawyers, and Matt Lollman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice of Ardmore or the First Baptist Church of Ardmore.
