Dollie was born on July 27, 1938 in Denton, Texas and died on June 16, 2021 at the age of 82. Dollie was the third of four children born to John and Ethel Inman, who were public school teachers. Dollie attended public schools in Denton, Texas, Munday, Texas, Sulphur Springs, Texas, and graduated from San Benito High School, in San Benito, Texas. She attended and graduated from Abilene Christian College with a B.S. in Science Education. She taught biology and chemistry in high schools in San Antonio and Austin. While teaching in San Antonio, she met and married Jim Thornton in 1962. They had two daughters, Tina, and Tiffany. Jim was a petroleum engineer, and the family lived in Liberty,Seguin, Corpus Christi, Houston, Bridgeport, Texas and Ardmore, Oklahoma.
When her daughters reached high school age, Dollie went to Texas Woman's University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. In addition to that degree, she did extra study and received the School Counselor's Certificate and the Licensed Professional Counselor's License. She worked as a school counselor until she retired in 2002. Following retirement, she became a Counselor at the Church of Christ on Merrick Drive in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Jim and Dollie were both raised in Christian homes. They were third generation Christians; both had strong Christian grandmothers. Jim served as a deacon and then as an elder in congregations where they worshipped. Dollie taught Bible classes of all ages in these congregations. and became a Christian counselor.
Dollie is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Inman; a sister, Johnnie Froneberger, and a brother, J. W. Inman.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Thornton of Ardmore, her two daughters, Tina Caplinger of Ardmore, Tiffany Ferrell and husband, Jimmy Ferrell of Katy, Texas and a brother, Joe Inman and wife, Linda of San Antonio. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Edie Caplinger of Ardmore, and Ian Ferrell, Kate Ferrell, and Luke Ferrell of Katy, Texas.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 19 th at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ on Merrick Drive with Ron Benedick officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Scroggins, TX at 3:30 p.m. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday evening from 6-7:30 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Luke Ferrell, Ian Ferrell, Jimmy Ferrell, Dan Froneberger and David Froneberger.
