Dowl Ervin Mitchell was born March 26, 1934 to Betty (Stafford) and Hubert "Shag" Mitchell in Ardmore, OK. He passed from this life on November 12, 2021 at the age of 87.
Dowl was a graduate of Springer High School in the class of 1951. On February 28, 1953 he married Betty Roberts in Ardmore, OK. From this marriage they had two sons, Mike and Rick. Dowl began working at SH Kress where he eventually became a manager. He remained there for 29 years and then began working at Michaels Art and Crafts. After his wife Betty's passing in 2002, Dowl married Norma Jean Griffin in 2003.They spent several memorable years together until her passing in 2014.
Dowl enjoyed fishing in his younger days, bowling, and raising cattle. He loved his family dearly as well as his church family.
Dowl was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Hubert "Shag" Mitchell; wives Betty Mitchell and Norma Jean Mitchell; and bonus grandson Elzie Cain.
He is survived by his sons Mike and his wife Lori of Lone Grove and Rick Mitchell and his wife Debbie of Liberty Hill, TX; grandchildren Ricky Mitchell and his wife Abby, Crystal Mitchell, Mark Mitchell and his wife Teresa, Chad Mitchell and his wife Robin, and Chelsie Dickson and her husband Jordan; bonus grandchildren Heather Hegwood and her husband Travis, and Kandice Cain; 8 great grandchildren; and 6 bonus great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 14 th at 2:00 p.m. at the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Brother David Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Newport Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Mike Mitchell, Rick Mitchell, Ricky Mitchell, Mark Mitchell, Chad Mitchell, and Jordan Dickson will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Elmbrook Nursing Home and Cross Timber Hospice for the loving care Dowl received.
