A Memorial Service for Evelyn Sandvick is scheduled for Saturday, March 4 ^th , at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Kevin Ratterman officiating. A Rosary will be held Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Craddock Funeral Home with visitation to follow.

Evelyn Elizabeth (Wilhelm) Sandvick, 82, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, passed away on February 24, 2023. Evelyn was born on March 6, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Carl and Helen (Schmidt) Wilhelm.  She passed away at Mercy Health Love County in Marietta, Oklahoma, with her family by her side.

Evelyn was raised in St. Louis with her four brothers and attended Catholic School.  When Evelyn was 13, her family sold their retail business and moved to Black River Falls, Wisconsin, to operate a dairy farm.  Evelyn graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1958 and was a member of the pep band, orchestra, and student council.  She then attended the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire and graduated with majors in English and French. Evelyn also earned a master's degree in French from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

While in college, Evelyn met R.C. Sandvick, and that is where they began the adventure of a lifetime.  Evelyn and R.C. were married on July 6, 1963, in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and were blessed with three children.  Evelyn spent the early days of her 43-year teaching career in Steelville, Missouri, Bad Kreuznach, Germany; Bingen, Germany; Cornell, Wisconsin and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.  In 1970, they moved to Ardmore when R.C. was transferred to help start up the new Uniroyal Tire Company plant.  Evelyn taught French at Ardmore High School and introduced her students to the beauty of France and its enchanting language.  She chaperoned the French Club and hosted countless annual Mardi Gras parties.  She taught thousands of kids who affectionately called her Mimi Sandvick, and she loved watching her students succeed in life.   Evelyn was also an amazing artist.  R.C. and Evelyn were both able to showcase their talents through their company, Glassart, fabricating and repairing stained glass and beveled windows for churches, homes, and businesses all over southern Oklahoma for almost 40 years.

Evelyn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Women's Club.  She loved traveling with her family and friends.  Evelyn and R.C. especially enjoyed the many long trips to France with James and Nancy Wilhelm and the quick trips to Las Vegas with Louie and Shirley Remondino.  Evelyn also enjoyed spending every Friday night with a special group of friends (the Friday-Nighters) and playing bridge once a month with their bridge group.

She is survived by her husband, R.C., of Ardmore, Oklahoma; her children Chris of Ardmore, Erik and his wife Tayler of Shaftsbury, Vermont, and Missie Hill and her husband Chris of The Woodlands, Texas; her siblings Carl and his wife Shirley, Edward and his wife Janet, James and his wife Nancy; and her sister-in-law Carlyn Dull. She is also survived by her grandchildren Carlee, Ellie, Kaylee, Blaire, Hutchinson, Townsend, Rhodes, Bo, and Brindi along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Carl and Lorraine Sandvick, her brother David and his wife Annabel, her brother-in-law Tom Sandvick, and her brother-in-law Jack Dull.

Bob Dell'Orco, Jim Dodson, Gary Farabough, Roger Gaddis, Charles Tate, Steven Harris, David Hunt, David Mannis, Bob Petz, David Reavis, Jess Storts, Ken Tackett, and Charles Tanner will serve as honorary pallbearers.
