In Loving Memory of Floyd Forbes (1929 - 2023)

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Floyd Forbes of Ardmore, Oklahoma, on November 23, 2023. Born on August 18, 1929, to Joe and Margaret Forbes, Floyd lived a life marked by honor, steadfastness, and a mild-mannered demeanor that endeared him to all who knew him.

Floyd graduated from Ardmore High School in 1947. He furthered his education at Oklahoma A&M College for 2.5 years.

On January 2, 1954, Floyd embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship with Norma Coady, and together they nurtured a family that stands as a testament to their love. Their three children, Ivy, Sally, and Ben, along with their families, are a living legacy of Floyd's gentle, loving, and dependable nature.

Floyd's life was a tapestry of various roles – a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a cowboy at heart, and a friend to many. He was a man of considerable virtues – obliging, organized, and possessing a gentlemanly charm that was as authentic as it was rare. His stories, often ending in gales of laughter, revealed a man with a dry wit and a penchant for good 'ol cowboy tales. He was an inspiration and a rock to his family, teaching by example and with patience.

His service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War spoke of his commitment to his country, just as his long tenure at Samedan Oil Corporation showcased his dedication to his work. Floyd's love for life was evident in his hobbies – he was an excellent dancer, a keen player of games, and enjoyed golfing, ranching, bowling, and attending horse races.

Floyd's faith was an integral part of his life, reflected in his years of attendance at St. Phillips Episcopal Church. His was a life well-lived, filled with joy, laughter, and the love of those around him.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Norma, parents, Joe and Margaret Forbes, and his sister Jorene Henry, Floyd's memory will be cherished by his surviving family – his children Ivy Divine (David), Sally Noble (Rusty), and Ben Forbes (Sandy); grandchildren Cassie, Adam, Cody, Jessie, Kate, Caleb, and Connor; eleven great-grandchildren; and his brother Peter Forbes.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to his loving caregivers Judy Downs, Beata Bil, and the nurses from Elara Caring (Destinee, Aga, Michelle, and Sharon) for their unwavering support.

A private family service, officiated by The Reverend Michael Stephenson, will be held at the graveside. Floyd will be remembered not just for the life he led, but for the lives he touched – a true gentleman, a loving family man, and a friend to all. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St Phillips Episcopal discretionary fund.
