Funeral services for Harold Emerson McMillan will be Friday, June 28, 2019, 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Ardmore with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, June 27, from 6-7 pm at the Craddock funeral home.

Harold was born September 25, 1928 in Dillard, OK., to Cecil Edward McMillan and Sarah (Nation) McMillan. He passed from this life on June 22, 2019 in the Ardmore V. A. Center at the age of 90.

He was raised in and around the Ardmore area until 1966 and transferred with OG&E to Chandler, Wewoka, Shawnee, Enid and back to Ardmore in 1980. Harold was employed by OG&E for 38 plus years He retired as Regional Superintendent of the Southern Region with OG&E. Previous to this he worked various locations and jobs. He was always a hard worker.

Harold married Hazel for Christmas on December 22, 1947. Harold was drafted into the army as a private in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant with various commendations.

He and Hazel were committed in their relationship to Christ and lived that throughout their 71 plus year marriage teaching Sunday school to students- high school and college, singles, young married and older married couples.

Harold was a deacon; served as a Sunday school director and both he and Hazel worked as missionaries helping to build and remodel various churches in Oklahoma, Arizona and Alaska. Harold enjoyed some hunting and a lot of fishing.

He finally persuaded Hazel to join him in his fishing endeavors after his retirement. Harold and Hazel birthed 2 children- Dave and Lisa- and parented and mentored numerous individuals & couples.

He enjoyed designing, building and remodeling many family homes and other structures along with building furniture. He and Hazel built flower and vegetable gardens and planted fruit trees wherever they lived. In Ardmore he added Bee Keeping to his many interests. They enjoyed sharing their produce with family, friends, neighbors and church. He was a man of wide ranging knowledge and wisdom.

Harold had a great sense of humor, playfully teasing everyone, especially Hazel. He thoroughly enjoyed the domino competition in his time at OG&E. He will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Sarah McMillan, brothers, Darrell and Virgil McMillan. Harold is survived by his wife, Hazel of Ardmore, OK; Son, Dave McMillan of Mounds, OK; daughter, Lisa Whertvine and husband, Richard Coble of Lone Grove, OK; Grandchildren, Zac and Anne Whertvine of Missouri, Jared Whertvine of New York, NY, Nolan McMillan of OKC, OK, Rebekkah McMillan of OKC, OK, Jessica McMillan Slevin and husband, Michael of Roundrock, TX; Great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Deanna, Karrin and Jameson; Brother, Garold McMillan of Ardmore, OK, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Oklahoma V.A. of Ardmore for their compassionate care for Harold's brief time with them.

In lieu of flower the family requests memorials be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Children's Homes or the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief.

Pallbearers will be Dave McMillan, Richard Coble, Zac Whertvine, Jared Whertvine, Dewayne Mauldin and Michael Slevin. Honorary bearers are Nolan McMillan, Brook Edmonds and Greg Piatt.
