Hazel
Hitt
Jun 20, 1928 — Apr 5, 2025
On April 5, 2025, Hazel Louetta Hitt, beloved Mom to her children and Meme to her grandchildren, passed away at the age of 96.
Hazel Louetta Wilson Hitt was born June 20, 1928 to Rosie Day Wilson and Spencer Benjamin Wilson. Hazel was the only girl of nine children born to her parents.
She married Billy Ray Hitt on June 17, 1948 in the parsonage of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Together they raised two sons, Kenneth Ray and Robert Earl and two daughters Marissa Kay and Carol Renee Hitt.
Upon moving back to Ardmore, Hazel and Bill joined Emmanuel Baptist Church where she has been a member for almost 40 years. Hazel worked briefly for Guys and Dolls and 11 years at Jefferson Elementary as a reading lab assistant. She retired from Jefferson Elementary in 1988. The loves of her life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom she loved to fix dinners for. She loved to cook, read, make crafts, and work in her flower beds. She and Bill won "yard of the week" one time. It was important to them that their yard was always immaculate.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; 8 brothers, Wesley Quinby, Joeseph Ezra, Vernon Evan, Charles Lee, Jess Willards, Spencer Leon, James Cleby, and Clyde Raymond; daughter Marissa Kay; and husband Billy Ray Hitt.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Hitt and his wife Danna, Robert Hitt and his wife Kelly, and Carol Hitt Rickets and her husband Drew; her adoring grandchildren, Kevin Hitt and his wife Jamie, Chris Rickets and his wife Ariel, Andrea Musgrove and her husband Hayden, Jordan Rickets and his wife Christy; and her precious great grandchildren, Kase Hitt, Eli, Max, and Ady Rickets, Sutton Rickets, and one on the way, Rhett William Musgrove.
Hazel (aka Meme) always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face when her grandchildren came to visit. She made sure to have snacks and candy for them at all times.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to O.M.R.F., Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or to the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held at Craddock Funeral Home on Sunday, April 6th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 7th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Donny Custar officiating.
Chris Rickets, Jordan Rickets, Josh Walls, Hayden Musgrove, Eli Rickets, Max Rickets, Kevin Hitt, and Kase Hitt will serve as pallbearers.
