Graveside services Ima "Jean" McMurtry will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday December 10, 2025, at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday December 9, 2025, at Craddock Funeral Home.
Jean was born Wednesday February 7, 1940, in Jasper, Texas to Ira Wesley and Fannie Pearl (Adams) Coker and died Friday December 5, 2025, in Ardmore, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 28 days.
Jean married William Ewing "Bill" McMurtry on October 12, 1958, in Jasper, Texas and he preceded her in death on June 15, 2018. She had previously lived in Spring, Texas and had been a resident of Ardmore for 33 years. She was an active member of the Ardmore First Baptist Church. Jean was someone who loved staying busy, she was a beloved children's Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years and loved spending time with her great grandchildren. She could always be found keeping busy enjoying doing yardwork and taking care of all of her plants. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 73:26.
Besides her husband she is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Carl Coker, Robert Coker, and James Coker. She is survived by her children, Alan McMurtry of Bryan, Texas, David McMurtry and his wife Laurie of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Amber Mitchell and her husband Billy of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Michael McMurtry and his wife Katelyn of Houston, Texas, Megan Haygood and her husband Tyler of Odessa, Texas, Hailey Olson of Overland Park, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Annie & William Mitchell of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Sutton, Greyson and Hollyn McMurtry; honorary son & daughter, Bennie & Lisa Scarbrough; siblings, Roy Coker of Lumberton, Texas, Betty Suri of Beaumont, Texas; sisters-in-law, Nelda and Mable Coker.
The family has requested that memorial contributions to honor Jean McMurtry be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Donations can be made by visiting www.fbcardmore.org and choosing the give option.
