Obituary

Memorial services for James Edward "Jim" Wray are scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, at 10:00 in the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Dr. David Daniel officiating. There will be a visitation immediately following.

Jim was born on May 25, 1950, in Dennison, Ohio, to Thomas Scott and Billie C. (Beckett) Wray. He passed from this life at home on August 29, 2025, at the age of 75.

He and Tamara Copeland were married on August 27, 1984, in Houston, Texas, and together they built a loving home and family.

Jim proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 1969 to 1973, receiving an honorable discharge. Though his active service ended, he carried the Marine Corps spirit with him always, often saying, "Once a Marine, always a Marine."

Following his service, Jim graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, with a degree in Business Management. His career path led him into contracting and construction, where he worked as a general contractor and later spent over 15 years running Wray Enterprises, remodeling homes in and around Ardmore and working directly with his family.

You don't have to look far in any Ardmore neighborhood to admire the mark he's left. His craftsmanship, creativity, and care are poured into the streets, buildings, and spaces we pass every day.

Life took Jim and his family to many places—including Houston, Broken Arrow, and finally Ardmore in 2000, where they planted roots and built lasting friendships.

Jim cherished the simple joys of life, spending time with his family, fishing (especially saltwater along the Texas coast), and enjoying the outdoors. He was remembered for his understanding nature and his ability to talk to anyone. With quick wit, an inquisitive mind, and an encouraging personality, he left a lasting impact on everyone who crossed his path.

He showed his love through his endless acts of service, whether it was fixing something around the house, lending a hand on a project, or showing up at a moment's notice whenever family or friends needed him.

Jim is survived by his soul mate, Tamara Wray of the home; daughter, Amanda and John Eric Turner of Ardmore; son, Lex and Hannah Wray, of Dripping Springs, TX; sister, Tina and David Grimes, of Conroe, TX; and his soon-to-be-born granddaughter, Rosie Wray.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas S. and Billie C. Wray; his brothers, Tom, Jeff, and Bob Wray; and his in-laws, Terry and Sylvia Copeland; furry companions Mina and Romeo.

Jim will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, Marine, friend and soon-to-be grandfather. His legacy is one of love, service, humor, and kindness. Some go their whole lives in search of this kind of love, Jim and Tamara had it for 41 years and she is forever grateful.
