Lone Grove
Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Benson, of Lone Grove, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday April 16, 2024, in the Craddock Memorial Chapel with David Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the Lone Grove West Memorial Cemetery with Cole Benson, Joshua Benson, Jordan Benson, Jackson Benson, Josh Duncan, and Johnny Givens serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Monday evening, April 15, 2024, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Craddock Funeral Home.
Jerry was born Monday February 16, 1942, in Du Quoin, Illinois to Virgil Jackson and Delores Fern (Scrutchfield) Benson and departed this life on Thursday April 11, 2024, at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 26 days.
Jerry married Cheryl "Cheri" Rice on December 19, 1965, in Granite City, Illinois and would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this year. They moved from Mississippi to Lone Grove in 1981 to go into the landscaping business with his older brother Ronald Benson. He later started writing sports for the Lone Grove Ledger in 1984. He enjoyed his grandchildren, and he loved watching the great grandchildren play!
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ron Benson and brother-in-law, Dale Heiman. He is survived by his wife; Cheri Benson, sons, Michael Wayne Benson and his wife Hannah and Christopher Douglas Benson; grandchildren, Lindsey Givens and her husband Johnny, Cole Benson and his wife Callie, Joshua Benson and his wife Autumn, Jordan Benson and his wife Nicole, Jackson Benson, Josh Duncan and his wife Nikki; great grandchildren, Zoey Benson, Cooper Benson, Corbin Givens, Beckett Duncan, Bentley Duncan, Brynlee Duncan and Barryn Duncan; brother, Jeff Benson and his wife Becky of St. Louis, Illinois and sister, Judy Heiman of Nashville, Illinois.
