Jimmy Ray Winchester passed away on November 17, 2024, at the age of 90 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Born on September 18, 1934 in Elmore City Ok, Jimmy grew into a man admired for his diligence, hard work, loyalty, and trustworthiness. He was a beloved husband to Linda Bohm Winchester for 66 years, a father to Jerry, Carrie, and Suzanne, and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather.Jimmy graduated from Maysville High School in 1953 and went on to earn his degree from Oklahoma State University in 1959. His career spanned several decades where he excelled as a diesel mechanic working with companies such as Standridge Equipment/John Deere, Lindsay Well Service, Kennecott Copper Corporation, Sooner Express, and Joe Brown Company. Alongside his professional career, he was a dedicated rancher and even served as an Arctic Survival Instructor in the United States Air Force.
Beyond his professional and military life, Jimmy was a devout member and deacon of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church and Pilgram's Rest Primitive Baptist Church. His life was a testament to his faith and the doctrine of grace.
Jimmy's hobbies included donating blood, playing the baritone in the community band, building telescopes, tying fishing flies and building fishing rods showcasing his love for trying new things and his inventive spirit. He was a constant presence at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, providing unwavering support through wins and losses alike.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Jerry Winchester and his wife Rae; his daughters, Carrie Rhoades and her husband Coleman, and Suzanne Ferrell and her husband Bentley; along with his grandchildren Leigh Peterson and husband Timothy, Abbie Winchester, Jill Grounds and husband David, John Ferrell, and Katie Ferrell, and great-granddaughter Zoe Grounds; brothers Curtis Winchester, Larry Winchester and Jerry Don Winchester. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, W.A. and Letha Maude Winchester, his brother William Harold Winchester, and his sister Doris Gammill.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 20th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Craddock Funeral Home in Ardmore, OK, with the funeral service on Thursday November 21st at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Purcell, OK. Jimmy's life was a beacon of dedication and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
