Joan F. Snodgrass died peacefully at home on Friday, January 25, 2019.

Joan was a gardener.  She tended to her husband John, her three daughters, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.  She cared for her community, giving generously of her love, time, and possessions to nurture those around her.  A gifted architect, painter, poet, seamstress, and dancer, she leaves those who knew her with a crop of cheerful and cherished memories.  At every opportunity, Joan harvested the joys of life.

Those who knew Joan may be surprised she did not write her own obituary: we understand.  But we believe she would want us to remind you of a stanza from one of her poems:

It isn't really very hard,

To have a bright and beautiful yard,

Instead of work, think it's fun,

Playing in God's gorgeous sun.

Joan was born to John Irving Fisher and Virginia Price Fisher, in Kirksville, Missouri, on October 9, 1927.  She graduated from Classen High School and earned a Bachelor's of Science in landscape architecture and botany from the University of Oklahoma in 1949.  Joan married John Snodgrass at the First Presbyterian Church, in Oklahoma City on August 18. 1948.  Joan was preceded by her husband, parents, and brother, John Fisher.  Joan is survived by her daughter, Sue Fernando, Ardmore; daughter, Cindy Johnson and husband, Dr. Robert Johnson, Ocean Springs, Mississippi; daughter, Sara Snodgrass and Darla Clarke, Noble; granddaughter, Kelly Spence and husband, Scott; grandson, Bobby Fernando and wife, Morgan; grandson, Chase Johnson; grandson Dr. Rainey Johnson and wife, Sarah Fairbrook; great grandchildren, Ian, Addison and Rylee Spence, and Carter and Maddy Fernando; sister, Kathryn Scott; sister-in-law, Luanne Snodgrass; and nephews, John and Brent Snodgrass.

Joan's favorite color was red.  Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at the First Methodist Church, Ardmore, Oklahoma.  She would expect a sea of red.  A reception will immediately follow.  Instead of flowers, those wishing to send an expression of sympathy should consider a donation to Ardmore Clean Team, PO Box 693 Ardmore, Ok. 73402, Christ Community Church, or First United Methodist Church.
