Funeral services for LaNora (Blain) Barnes will be at 10:00 am Friday January 5, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Marietta, Oklahoma with Reverend Brandon Twyford officiating and Tony Phillips and Scott Poe providing the eulogy. The burial will be in the McAlister Cemetery near Overbrook, Oklahoma with Kent Taylor, David Erger, Ryan Taylor, Colby Inselman, Jack Gentry, Mark Courtney, and Scott Poe serving as pallbearers.
LaNora was born Tuesday June 30, 1936, in Amber, Oklahoma to Samuel and Nettie (Taylor) Blain and died Tuesday January 2, 2024, at her home in Marietta, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 3 days.
LaNora moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1975, previously living in El Dorado, Kansas. She was a 1954 graduate of El Dorado High School. She obtained her associate degree in nursing in 1971 from Butler Community College in El Dorado. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1988 from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. She taught IV Therapy at the Vo-Tech in Ardmore for 15 years and taught Personal Health at the Ardmore Higher Ed Center for many years. She retired after 23 ½ years at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma as a Registered Nurse. LaNora was married to Bud Barnes, and they enjoyed many years together. LaNora was a lifelong Christian and her and Bud were active members of the First Baptist Church in Marietta and went on several Mission Trips worldwide.
LaNora is preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Harold Gentry on July 12, 2006, and son-in-law, Bjorn Johnsen; brother; Jack Blain; and sister, Lola Poe. She is survived by her husband, Bud Barnes of Marietta, Oklahoma; children, Ava Erger and her husband Dave of Boulder, Colorado, Paula Bohon of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Randy Gentry and his wife Marcia of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Gina Johnsen of Ardmore, Oklahoma, DeLisa Taylor and her husband Kent of Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amy Wilson, Jeanine Taber and her husband Aaron, Carly Brantz and her husband Dave, Madeline Erger, Colby Iselman, Ryan Taylor, Julie Taylor, Margrethe Johnsen; great grandchildren, Breanna Evans and Kaylee Evans, Rachel Reames, Presley Caldwell, Lola Caldwell, Cameron Taber, Samantha Brantz, Carina Brantz; great great grandchildren, Bexley Clark, Breckan Clark.
