Lynn
Watkins
Sep 8, 1944 — Mar 18, 2023
Everett Lynn Watkins was born on September 8, 1944 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Everett and Bliss (McCullough) Watkins. He passed away March 18, 2023. He attended Ardmore High School, class of 1962. In high school, he refined his love of the game of golf, winning the State 2-Ball Championship. His love for the game of golf would follow him throughout his life, playing in many tournaments and courses around the world.
Lynn went on to attend the University of Oklahoma. He was a proud member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the ROTC Program, receiving the Distinguished Military Student Award. While in school, he met his wife of the last 57 years, Beverly Anne Schurman. He and Beverly were married on August 19, 1966 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1966, he received his military orders sending him and Beverly to Nurnberg, Germany. He served in the 14 th Finance Section of the US Army.
After his service, he and Beverly returned to Ardmore, Oklahoma where Lynn joined his father in business at Watkins Insurance Agency. He worked there until retiring in 2016. The family business has been in existence since 1938 and is now owned by his son, Tanner.
Lynn had many loves, none as big as his pride in the Oklahoma Sooners. Every Saturday in the fall he and Beverly would be in Norman cheering on the football team and every October in Dallas at the Red River Rivalry. Boomer Sooner! When not chasing snow moguls in the back bowls of Vail, Colorado, only giving up his skiis at the age of 74, Lynn could be found on the golf course-always driving for show and putting for dough. Lynn also loved a beautiful yard – a trait he learned from his mother. Whether it was planting flats of beautiful flowers or laying brick walls or sidewalks, he took great pride in his landscape designs.
Lynn is survived by his wife Beverly of the home, Daughter Shannon Holmes and husband Ed of Decatur, Texas, Daughter Brooke Ross and husband Carter of Aledo, Texas and Son Tanner Watkins and wife Courtney of Ardmore, Oklahoma. His grandchildren, Hailey Bliss Holmes and Holden Wesley Holmes, Carlisle Brooke Ross, Luke Everett Ross, Adeline Carter Ross, and Weston Campbell Watkins and Mary Anne Elizabeth Watkins. We love you Pop Pop 4-9-10!
