Mattie Joe (Jo) Payne Quillin passed from this earthly life to eternal life on February 27, 2023 at the age of 97 – "pushing 98". She was born September 9, 1925 in Owensboro, Kentucky, to John Taylor Payne and Mattie Florence Knight Payne. She graduated from Davis County High School in 1943 and attended Jenkins Business College in Owensboro, Kentucky. She married John Paul (Paul) Quillin of Konawa, Oklahoma in 1950. In 1952 David Wayne Quillin was born. In 1953 the family moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma where Paula Joe Quillin was born in 1956. In 1968 they moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma. Her beloved Paul died in 1974 from acute leukemia. She moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2021 at the age of 95, "pushing 96," to live with her daughter, Paula.  Until her marriage, Jo worked as a bookkeeper for John L. Kessler Insurance Agency. Although she was a stay-at-home mom, she lived a life of service, including voluntary pink lady service at Okmulgee Hospital, gray lady Red Cross service at Okmulgee Hospital, volunteering at the Ardmore Regional Food Bank until 2020, visitation and music at the Ardmore Veterans Home, 53 years of service at First Baptist Church of Ardmore teaching Sunday school, singing in the adult choir, serving on the finance committee, and working in the clothes closet and resource center until she was 95 years old, "pushing 96". But she was especially proud of her 1941-1942 alto part in the Ladies Joy Quartet on radio program W.O.M.I in Owensboro, Kentucky singing gospel numbers upon request from listeners.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Irene Jennings and husband Dr. Ray Jennings of Oakland, California, sister Evelyn Shine and husband Mike of Kansas City, Missouri, brother John Payne and wife Edna of Owensboro, Kentucky, and brother Copelyn Payne and wife Barbara of Owensboro, Kentucky. She is survived by son David Quillin and wife Rebel of Brownwood, Texas, grandson Paul David Quillin, granddaughter Emmagrace Quillin, daughter Paula Quillin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her hobbies included traveling, golf, and playing duplicate bridge. She played golf 49 years with the Dornick Hills Ladies Golf Association where she convinced the golf pro to institute the Jo Quillin course rule allowing her to shave strokes from her attempts on the "cliff hole." She toured all the states and many foreign countries. She was a member of Southern Oklahoma Republican Womens Club and American National Duplicate Bridge Club.

She was the life of the party. When choosing to go on hospice on February 15, 2023, she texted her friends:

My life has been in the Lord's hands since I was 11. And now I think he is ready to take me to my eternal home. I have gone on hospice and am in a hospital bed at Paula's. So don't cry for me except tears of joy. We have a lot of good memories. Who can ask for anything more.

A memorial service is scheduled for March 11, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating.  The family will host a visitation at the funeral home on Friday March 10, starting at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Jo requested memorials be made to the charity of your choice. She was partial to Baptist Children's Home, mission work and cancer research.

Hers was a life well lived.
