Obituary

Merlaine Y. Smith was born on Friday, January 17, 1932 in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  She passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.  Merlaine leaves behind her daughter, Renee Wiggins and husband Clifton, and numerous nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Merdo and Christine Bristow, her son, David Smith, sister, CarolAnn Dickinson, and husband David Dickinson.

Merlaine's life was a life well lived.  She was a devoted mother, a cherished friend, and most importantly, a steadfast Christian.  She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her willingness to see others prosper, her generosity, her sincere unwavering love of friends and family, and her beautiful smile.  She was a voracious reader, gardener of flowers, and planter of trees.  She loved and nurtured children, all animals, and her charitable interests were numerous.

Precious mother, may you now rest in peace with your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  All who knew her mourn her loss, but take comfort and rejoice in her legacy  of undying, selfless devotion and love for them.

We acknowledge the caring staff of The Lodge Assisted Living, Cross Timbers Hospice, and physician Dr. Rother.  Caregiving is a "mission of the heart."  We also would like to acknowledge the loving care provided by her devoted caregivers, with special acknowledgement of Darla Helms.

As were Merlaine's wishes, no services will be held, but we will cherish her memory as long as we live.  She chose to be cremated by Craddock Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lodge, 1310 Knox Road, Ardmore, OK and Food For Pets Inc., 720 North Commerce, Box 551, Ardmore, OK
