Nicholas Burns Noble, known to family and friends as Nick, Tex, or Old Fart, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 4, 2026, at his cabin in Gunnison, Colorado. He was 70 years old.

Nick was born March 11, 1956, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The son of Sam and Mary Jane Noble, he grew up in Ardmore and graduated from Ardmore High School in 1974.

He went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma. After college, he began his career as a landman in the mining industry in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he worked until 1981. He later moved back to Oklahoma City to enter the oil and gas business where he remained involved in multiple capacities throughout his life.

Nick was a dedicated Scout, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and becoming a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He had the honor of attending the World Scout Jamboree on the slopes of Mt. Fuji, Japan.

A devoted fan of Oklahoma Sooner sports, Nick had a special love for OU women's basketball, which he shared with his mom. He believed deeply in giving back to his community and served on numerous boards and organizations over the years. He was a board member of Positive Tomorrows, where he helped start the North Pole Invitational golf tournament, an event that raised thousands of dollars for the children served by the organization. His desire to help those less fortunate than himself led him to serve as a board member of the Homeless Alliance.

Nick served as a trustee for the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation and as a board member of Quien Sabe Corporation. He also served as a board member of Nichols Hills Bank, a board member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, and a director of the American Association of Professional Landmen. Nick had a lifelong love of cowboy heritage and was a member of the Tejas Vaqueros trail ride in Texas as well as the Rancheros Visitadores trail ride in Santa Barbara, California.

Those who knew Nick remember him as remarkably creative, always able to offer a different perspective on any situation. Above all, Nick was a doer — if something needed to be done, he led the way rather than just talking about it. Nick had a big heart, believed in serving others, and lived that belief every day.

Nick is survived by his life partner, Shirley Word; his son, Lars Noble and wife Sarah; his daughter, Morgan Noble; and his two brothers, Lloyd Noble II and Rusty Noble. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Jane Noble, his sister, Shelley Noble Mullins, and his beloved dog, Stink Eye.
