Opal Marguerette (Harris) John was born December 9, 1931 to Agnes Lavene (Gale) and Dewey S. Harris in Provence, OK. She passed from this life at home surrounded by family on September 8, 2023 at the age of 91.
Opal was a graduate of Dickson High School in the class of 1949. On April 30, 1949 she married Donald John in Gainesville, TX. From this marriage they had 5 children, Larry, Donna, Cathey, Laura, and Timothy.
She was a dedicated wife during Don's Military, Coach/Educator Career, Living at Air bases in Oklahoma City, Ok, San Antonio,TX Kaiserslautern, Darmstadt and Frankfurt Germany. She worked for Monkey Wards in the candy counter and when Don retired in 1974 they moved back to Ardmore Oklahoma where she went to work for Ardmore City School at the Early Childhood Center as an Aid and Bus driver for the Multi handicap children, she retired in 1987. She and Don lived in Boswell and Wynona, Oklahoma were Don was the school principal.
Mom Loved to Travel in her R.V. her and dad were members of the Mobile Villa Camping club. She was known for her love of cooking especially Peach cobbler , Fried Taters and Peanut Brittle.
From her years of being a military wife and having to raise the kids and keep things running while dad was serving at unaccompanied duty stations She was the Queen of tearing something apart and fixing it, from washing machines to the travel trailers to the cars, there was never anything that she wouldn't tackle.
She Loved to sew and quilt and every child in the family has their favorite quilt from Momma or Grandma
She was a very accomplished Cake decorator making wedding cakes and ginger bread houses for all her children and several nieces, nephews and friends, instilling that skill and love in her daughter Cathey, Son Tim and Daughter in Law Tracy
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Donal of 73yrs in Jan of this year, her parents , son Larry Keith , sister Doris Auguerree Harris; and brothers James, Bobby, Curtis, and Boise Harris.
She is survived by her daughters Donna Pritchard (Douglas), Cathey Popkess (Joe), and Laura Holbrook (Hubert Doyle), son Timothy John (Tracy)
Grandchildren Isaiah Pritchard, Lauren Pritchard, Dakota Pritchard, Mikeal Popkess (Monica), Jonna Popkess, Tamara Holbrook, Christopher Holbrook (Stacie), Teata Bob (Lawyer), Elijah Holbrook, Tyler Holbrook (Toni), and Tymon John; 13 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren.
Sisters Shirley Johnston and Charlene McClendon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 13th at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Roy Fountain officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Craddock Funeral Home.
Christopher Holbrook, Mikeal Popkess, Tyler Holbrook, Tymon John, Isaiah Pritchard, and Dakota Pritchard will serve as pallbearers.
