Obituary

A Memorial Service to honor the life of Ralph Ellis "Shy" Dyson will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in the Craddock Memorial Chapel at 11 am.

Shy was born on April 20, 1941, and grew up on a dirt road in Yuba Oklahoma. Farm life taught him many things, most importantly how to raise cattle. He attended Yuba Schools, graduating in 1959, where contrary to popular belief, he did not walk barefoot in the snow to school. He was the shortest member of the Yuba Railsplitter's Basketball team and served as President of the Bryan County 4H club, where he was awarded Grand Champion Steer. He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he was a proud member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, and it was at SOSU that he met and fell in love with Greta Pruitt from Ardmore Oklahoma. They married in June of 1966. Shy served 5 years in the Army Reserves and after a brief move to Riverside California, he & Greta settled in Ardmore to raise their three children. He served as the Payroll Supervisor for Uniroyal until a stroke medically retired him in 1988. Shy and Greta refused to believe he would never walk or talk again and while he re-learned to walk, he never again regained the gift of gab. He lived the life of a "Retired Man of Leisure" outliving all doctors who doubted his strength. In 1994, Greta and Shy moved to the Happiest Place on Earth, Orlando Florida where he would hone his tanning skills before settling back in Ardmore to enjoy watching his grandchildren grow up. Soon after, he lost his soulmate, Greta, and his friends and family watched in awe as he continued to live life on his terms. For the next 20 years, you could find Shy on a barstool with both new and lifelong friends, in front of the TV cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners, or at his brother-in-law's farm tending cattle.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Greta Pruitt Dyson, Parents, Ralph Alexander and Emma Faye Dyson. Brother, Larry Dyson and granddaughter Emma Rose Newell.

He is survived by Sister, Patricia Dyson Keene, Daughter Alyssa Newell (Todd), Hilarie Savage (Patrick) and Ralph Ellis Jr (Jessica). Granddaughters, Evie Dyson-Hendricks, Rylie Dyson and Steffy Newell and his grandson Chase Dyson.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Sara's Project, 814 16th NW, Ardmore, Oklahoma 73401.
