Stephen Henson was born September 12, 1953 in Marion, North Carolina to Marjorie and Herman Henson. He passed from this life on February 21, 2021 in Oklahoma City at the age of 67.
Stephen Henson was a graduate from Durant High School in the class of 1972. Upon graduation he enrolled at Southeastern Oklahoma University. On December 23, 2000 he married Eydie Sherwood in Eureka Springs, AR.
Steve a true passion in law enforcement. His career began with the Ardmore Police Department in 1976 and remained with them for 7 years. He served with the Carter County Sheriff Department for 33 years under 5 sheriffs. After retirement Steve worked for the Dickson PD and for his security company. He was a certified firearms instructor for CLEET and was CLEET certified sniper for the State of Oklahoma. Steve organized and led the Deputy Rangers Youth Program at CCSO. He was a Self Defense Act Certified Instructor and taught classes at the Pontotoc and Ardmore Vo-Tech Security Office Training. Steve was a skilled hunter and marksman and has made a number of incredible shot from unbelievable distances. His passion outside of the police department was his love for fishing and being "1" with the woods. He was truly an avid hunter and fisherman.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Anne Rich and her husband John Rutherford; father Oscar Herman Henson; brother Kenny Henson; and sister Cindy Rutherford.
He is survived by his wife Eydie Henson of Dickson; daughters Talisha Garrett and her fiancé Justin Greenwood of Sulphur, OK and Danita Howard and her husband Darren of Lone Grove, OK; step son Dax Heatley and his wife Linda; sister Gloria Jean Henson; brothers Timothy Henson and Johnny Rutherford; brother-in-laws Ken Butler and his wife Debbie and Dwayne Sherwood; 8 grandchildren Shyla Brimhall, Courtney Duncan, Nathan Garrett, Makenna and Carson Howard, and Landon, Liam, and Luke Heatley; great-grandchildren Gavin, Haulin, Rustin, Axl, and another great grandson due in June; nephews David Epps, Jim Henson, Chris Henson, Timothy Henson, Jr., Josh Henson, Johnathan Rutherford, Joey Snow, Brayden Robison, Chaz Sherwood, Josh Davis, and Hunter Fairbanks; nieces Jennifer Atkinson, Rachel Henson, Nichole Robison, Tiffany Crissup, and Heather Sherwood; great nephew Colt Ryder; cousins Shawn, Hayden, and DeeDee Bates; and lifelong friend Allen Flowers.
Visitation is scheduled for 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Craddock Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
