Funeral services for Therman Ronald "Ron" Cockran are scheduled for Tuesday, October 23 rd at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation is Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Craddock Funeral Home.
Ron Cockran was born October 30 th , 1936 to H ilda Jane (Coker) and Therman Ro y "Buster" Cockran in Emporia , KS. He passed from this life on October 18 th , 2018 at the age of 81.
At the age of three, Ron's family moved to Osawatomie, KS. Upon graduation he attended Washburn University in Topeka and worked for BNSF. On May 6, 1956 Ron married his lifelong friend, Roberta Kitchen. From this marriage of 62 years, they had one son, Mark Cockran . Ron was employed by the State and Federal government for 35 years, including the Kansas State National Guard. Ron retired as a C W 4 , with more accommodations than anyone else had ever received at that time . Ron worked another 5 years with the state of Kansas before moving to Ardmore in 199 8 to be closer to his family. Ron t he n became employed at SOTC to establish a new Industrial Training program , where he worked 10 years. Ron had a great love for his grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing with them and watching them in the Plainview Band and in the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band. The love of OU football became a major part of his life every year Fall rolled around.
Ron served the Lord in many capacities. He served as a Deacon at Northern Hills Baptist Church in Topeka, while teaching various Sunday School Classes. While in Ardmore he served as a Deacon at the First Mission Baptist Church and volunteered as a Chaplin a Mercy Memorial Hospital. Ron loved Jesus and was loved by his Church family, many friends, coworkers, and most of all, his family.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Therman and Hilda Cockran.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Cockran ; so n Mark (Mari) Cockran ; grandchildren Hope (Tim) Olsen of Willow Park, TX , Wayne Cockran of Oklahoma City , Kurt (Emily) Coc kran of Tucso n, AZ, and Karin Cockran of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren Layla Olsen, Dylan Olsen, Hayden Cockran, Holter Cockran, Lori Cockran , and Peter Cockran .
Wayne Cockran, Kurt Cockran, Tim Olsen, Lee Piatt, Cohen Barnes, and Scott Sullivan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers are Ron Patrick, Davi d Annis , John Hart, Wayland Alexander, and Chuck McMill a n.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Mission Baptist Church.
