William R. "Bill" Meacham

Services will be Monday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m. for longtime Ardmore resident William R. "Bill" Meacham, 87, who passed away Wednesday, July 28, at Integris Hospital/Yukon after a valiant fight with declining health.

He was born July 11, l934 in Ardmore to Willie Floyd Meacham and Norma Vaden Lawson.  They raised Bill and his younger sister, Carolyn, in Ardmore except for a few years in Amarillo and Cleburne, Texas.

Bill graduated with the class of l953 from Ardmore High School and then in l957 with the final graduating class from Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University. He earned a degree in Business Management Accounting and was affiliated there with Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

After graduation Bill ranched with his father in Madill while branching out to the home building/developing arena which he actively pursued until his death. During those years he served six months active duty with the U.S. Army and six years in the Army Reserve. He was affiliated with the Ardmore Homebuilders Association, Rotary Club, and Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church. On April 20, l963 he married Joanne Steward of Tulsa, OK and they had two daughters, Monica Anne and Vanessa Anne.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister. He is survived by his wife Joanne, daughter Monica and her husband, El Westerfield and their sons, Walker and William, all of Frisco, Texas, and daughter Vanessa and husband Todd Maloney and their children, Paisley, Pierce and Grant, all of Alexandria, Virginia.

Services for Bill will be conducted by Dr. Alton Fannin in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church and then at Rose Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, El Westerfield and Todd Maloney, and his grandsons, Walker and William Westerfield, Pierce and Grant Maloney.  Honorary pallbearers are some of his longtime friends, Bill Chapman, Wayne Laske, David Reavis, Wilson Roberts, Sam Veazey, D. Allen Wint, and Don Yeager.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Missions Ministry at the First Baptist Church, the Shriners Hospital for Children, or the charity of your choice.
